Ok2bclever 2 Bronze. What are my options to make an Optiplex GX small form be able to play games like Halo? All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic. Replies Hydralisk 5 Tungsten. XFX Geforce card would fit. If you have sff i highly advise you to ditch it and get a new system.
Yes, Halo Combat Evolved. It seems like I read somewhere you have to watch not getting a board that would overwhelm the power supply. Regarding the small form, I am rapidly coming to that conclusion, but I am stuck with the small form for probably another year because of space limitations. Bobman 4 Beryllium. The PSU will definitely be okay.
I ran my and a Prescott power hungry on it for at least a few months. Not sure how the longetivity would had been like, but it worked. Dell's PSUs are underated too. If you rate that Dell PSU the same way, it's got about watts. Likewise, video cards overstate a bit to play it safe so they don't have to deal with alot of returns due to inadequete PSUs.
You should be okay. Shame they didn't release a low profile version of even the regular It'll power a , which isn't very demanding, at least. Message Edited by Bobman on PM. Yes, the much weaker power supply of the small form factor is my concern. It has a puny watt rating which is significantly less than the watts of the towers, especially when I read some of the cards state they require a minimum of watts.
Sigh, there does not appear to be any room or option for adding a larger power supply either. The 'G' in the chipset's name denotes the fact that it also offers integrated graphics -- Intel's new Extreme Graphics solution to be precise. This borrows up to 32MB of system RAM for its purposes 64MB if MB or more is fitted , which can obviously impact overall performance when running demanding applications. Many companies will only require adequate performance with mainstream productivity applications, in which case the integrated graphics solution should be fine.
The front of the GX houses a speed CD-ROM drive and a floppy drive, along with a prominent power button and a less prominent grey-coloured flip-open door, behind which lurk a pair of USB 2. At the back there are a further four USB 2. Given the GX case's compact size, it's no surprise that expansion potential is limited: as well as the AGP graphics slot, there are only two half-length PCI slots, both free.
As far as performance is concerned, the GX's Business Winstone score of As indicated earlier, the G chipset's integrated graphics create a potential bottleneck when running demanding applications, as indicated by the GX's 3DMark score of leading-edge scores from PCs with state-of-the-art 3D graphics cards score over 10, This suggests that if you want to run demanding 3D applications on the GX, you'll need to either boost the system memory or install a dedicated graphics adapter -- or both.
Asset management is also catered for, making the GX as manageable a corporate PC as you could wish for. Dell's standard warranty runs for three years, with next business day on-site service; this can be optionally extended to a same-day, four-hour response time service if necessary.
Even so, companies are unlikely to go badly wrong choosing the GX for a combination of solid performance, excellent manageability and a modicum of expandability. Doogee S80 hands-on: A waterproof, rugged walkie-talkie phone.
